About Me

My photo
In October, 1997, my husband Mark and I, decided to move to Ecuador. We settled in Cuenca, the third largest city. It is nestled in a valley surrounded by the Andes Mountain range. It has been an amazing aventure.

Vilcabamba

We had the chance to get away for a few days and spend some quiet time with friends in a sleepy town called Vilcabamba. About 5 hours from Cuenca, but it is like a completely different world. Unfortunately, because of some stressful events at work, it was difficult for me to destress and relax. But, thanks to Jordanne, A.J. and Miha and our friends in Loja and Malacatos (towns close to Vilcabamba) I was able to have moments of extreme pleasure. Here are some pics of our adventure. There is nothing like our spiritual brotherhood. We even met some new friends along the way.

Do you think the luggage will fit in this small car? "Of course" replies Mark. "Toyota is Toyota."

Our little home away from home.

AHHH! Now we can relax.

This was such a surprise. My spiritual daughter and granddaughter are now serving in Malacatos. This made our day!

Friends we met serving in Malacatos and visiting from Canada and England. A very nice evening.

  3. We are moving to Ecuador in 10 weeks from Oregon but have been planning our move for a couple of years now. We have our D.C. the last week of July and are flying out from there to Quito. We were thinking of Cuenca as our finale destination. We speak very little Spanish but plan on taking Spanish classes as soon as we settle. We have never been to Ecuador but like what we see on the reviews of Cuenca. We're a bit concerned about the air quality though as my wife has frequent bouts with Pleurisy. Cuenca has an English speaking congregation which we thought would be good for us to start until we become fluent enough in Spanish to explore further out. We hear the air quality is excellent in Vilcabamba and may be interested in moving there. What is the congregation like there? We plan to start full-time auxiliary pioneering right away even though it may take some time for our records to get there we can still do the time. We both have health issues and want to start with auxiliary before moving into full-time to see if we can do it. We lost our only child in a very tragic event and would like to start over somewhere far away in a spiritually strong congregation until she returns. Cost of living is key for us so that my wife can quit her job and we can live off of my pension. Don't want to say to much on a public blog but would love to talk via email if possible. Thanks so much for the blog, Angie was thinking of starting one when we get there to keep our friends up to date. If we could somehow get our email address to you without posting it publicly that would be great. Thanks again. Steve
